Jumpstarting the Day with Low Carbohydrate Breakfast RecipesNutritionists and other health experts agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day for all people, dieters and non-dieters alike. It gives us much of the energy we need to get going through the day. Also, studies show that people who eat breakfast tend to lose weight more quickly, probably because they don’t feel as hungry as they would if they skipped breakfast. To keep breakfast choices interesting, those on a low-carb diet would do well to take advantage of the many low carbohydrate breakfast recipes that can be found online. Many people would think that many of the breakfast items we are used to would be taboo to those on a controlled-carbohydrate diet; bagels, croissants, pancakes, waffles – all these are usually made from white flour and sugar, which have great amounts of carbs in them. But all of the low carbohydrate breakfast recipes have taken care of this problem by substituting ingredients that do not take away the taste and flavor of the original dishes, just the carbohydrates. For instance, a recipe for Belgian waffles may use oat flour instead of white flour; almond meal may be used to make muffins; pancakes may be made from a low carb bake mix (such as the one offered by Atkins); soy flour can be used for waffles; pork rinds can be substituted for bread crumbs for french toast. You can also take advantage of recipes such as low-carb maple syrup (for your waffles and pancakes), even flourless crepes! What is sure is that you would be able to make great tasting low carb meals either for yourself or for limited-carbohydrate dieters in your household. Another great thing about making these low carb meals is that they use ingredients that are readily available and, in many cases, inexpensive. Take eggs, for instance. Eggs can be taken plain (fried or scrambled) or dressed up in hundreds of different ways (omelets, deviled eggs, stuffed eggs). And of course you can still avail of many of the usual breakfast favorites if you don’t feel like cooking a meal from scratch: sausages, bacon, cheese, among others. But be wary of some processed foods; they may have been preserved with sugar and other compounds that may pack quite a powerful carbohydrate punch. Nonetheless, low carbohydrate breakfast recipes found online and offline makes the job of planning low carb meals easier for the average person. They list the substituted ingredients in the recipes, provide the nutritional information for each dish, and even provide a forum so that individual dieters can share with others their experience with or advice regarding that dish. It’s nice to know that with such options, breakfast will continue to be healthy and interesting. |
